Great Britain Under 18’s Management Team

 

Here below is the coaching team who will look after all your needs. With this we also provide a team administrator who looks after the organizational aspects of training and competing at a national level and a fully qualified sports physiotherapist who will ensure athlete development is achieved. Every Member of this team has had the latest in child protection and child welfare training with all having a current DBS certificate.

Head Coach

My Dragon Boating Background

  • 2004 to 09 - I started Dragon Boating as an under 18 with my local club Amathus DBC. I paddled for their Premier Crew and helped them win the league in 2006, 07, 08 and 09.

  • 2010 to 13 – I became an original of the newly formed Crusaders DBC working closely with them on under 18 development in the club to the point where we had 20 under 18’s and also gained promotion into the BDA’s premier league in 2011.

  • 2013 to 15 - I helmed and worked closely with Pershore Phoenix in the midlands to help support under 18’s development with success of gaining strong links with a local sea scouts group.

  • 2015 – present – I am currently back working closely with Amathus DBC paddling and helping to develop their number of under 18’s in the club.

 

My GB Dragon Boat Background

  • 2005 to 06 - I represented GB at the World's in Berlin & at the European's in Prague 06 were we won 2 Gold & 3 Silver medals.

  • 2006 to 08 - I was appointed as the Assistant Coach & coached the team to the worlds in Australia 07 & the European's in Italy 08, were the team won 2 silver & 3 bronze medals and set the fastest 500m time of 1:59minutes.

  • 2008 to present - I was successfully appointed as the new Under 18 Great Britain Head Coach in November 08. The Team since then has won 7 Gold, 7 Silver & 21 Bronze at both World's & European's.

 

My Role and Responsibilities

My Responsibilities are safe guarding, selection, preparation, coaching and performance of the team. It is also to ensure programmes are in place for individual athletes so that they are prepared to their best ability to perform to the highest standard they can. It is my overall responsibility to organise training weekends, training weeks and championships.

 

My Experience and Qualifications

I am a qualified Level 3 Dragon Boat Coach, Canoe, Kayak, Sailing, Raft Building, Archery, Mountain Biking, Football, Navigation and D of E coach/leader & work with people between the ages of 6 to 25 years since 2004, these young people come from all backgrounds with different abilities. I have a degree in sports coaching from Edge Hill University and a teaching degree in Physical Education, bringing the latest and most effective ways of coaching and teaching from the psychological to the physical aspects to my role. I spent 5 years teaching PE and ICT in a High school with children who have SEN (Social, Emotional, Needs). Currently I am a Sports Development Officer for St Helens Council developing Satellite Club and school access.

My Dragon Boating Background

I started Dragon Boating in 2013 as an under 18 with my local club Amathus DBC and over the years I have paddled for their open squad winning the league with them in 2013, 14, 15 & 16.

 

My GB Dragon Boat Background

  • 2013 & 14 - I represented the Great Britain Under 18's in the world championships in Hungary were I won a bronze medal and in the European championships in the Czech Republic were I won 2 Silver and 1 Bronze Medal

 

  • 2015 & 16 - I represented the Great Britain Premier Squad at the World Championships in Canada and the European championships in Italy

  • 2016 - I was successfully appointed as the GB under 18's Assistant Coach in September 2016

 

My Role and Responsibilities

My Responsibilities are to assist the Head coach in all his responsibilities and to focus on the athletes training diaries to assess the amount of training being done between training weekends with GB. To also focus on my own personal coaching development in learning the necessary skills in coaching at international level and everything that comes with this.

 

My Experience and Qualifications

I am a BDA level 2 coach and currently studying to become a fully qualified primary school teacher.

My Dragon Boating Background

I started Dragon Boating in 2006 where you stared paddling as a under 18 with my local club Amathus DBC.

 

My GB Dragon Boat Background

  • 2007 - I paddled for the GB Under 18's in the world's in Australia were the team set the fastest GB under 18 time of 1.59 over 500m

  • 2009 to present - I was successfully appointed as the Under 18 Great Britain Physiotherapist in September 09

 

My Role and Responsibilities

My Responsibilities are safe guarding and to ensure the well-being of the paddlers both physically and emotionally while ensuring that they are “FIT” to train and race. 

 

My Experience and Qualifications

I am a fully qualified physiotherapist with a degree in sports physiotherapy and also a degree (PGCE) in teaching both from Edge Hill University, bringing the latest and most effective techniques in physiotherapy and working/teaching young people. I am currently working as a High school PE teacher.

  • 2008 – Appointed Great Britain under 18’s Team Administrator in September 2008

  • 2008 to 11 – Took the Great Britain under 18’s to 2 world championships in the Czech Republic in 2009 and Tampa, USA in 2011 were the squad won 2 Gold & 3 Bronze medals. While also taking them to Amsterdam for the European Championships in 2010

  • 2016 - Appointed Great Britain under 18’s Team Administrator in September 2016

 

My Role and Responsibilities

My Responsibilities are to assist the Head coach in all his responsibilities with the focus on ensuring that training venues, food and equipment are booked/organised. While also ensuring that the logistics of taking a squad to a championships is booked and organised including travel, VISA’s, food and accommodation.
